“To be or not to be, that is the question;
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing, end them. To die, to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end…”
Willy Shakespeare wrote these words for Hamlet’s famous soliloquy. It has been uttered by many; however, have you ever really read the words…let them really sink in? Is he speaking about sports psychology? He’s talking about being the victim of circumstance or being victorious in fighting back. The name of the game is mental training.
There is a very successful business woman by the name of Donna Krech. She speaks about “The Victory Principle” which in a nutshell is her approach to life. The Victory Principle encompasses the fact that we all have tough things happening in our live, but whether or not we stand up and fight like mad against it is our choice. She sounds like she really thought about Hamlet’s words.
She goes on to say that she is in a constant state of victory. The victory is overcoming her own limiting beliefs. She has opposed them, ending them from dominating her life. Donna’s life wasn’t the best to say the least, but she decided that there had to be something better. She got herself going and created the circumstances that allowed her to amass wealth in all areas of her life…health, relationships, and finances.
How many of out there are working The Victory Principle? How many of us are in a constant state of victory? I know that Hamlet’s words and Donna Krech’s words cut right through me. The feelings of giving up or getting things done are constant struggles in everyone’s life. You know that any really good game is not a sure thing. It is within the battle that the victor or victim arises. Things can look bad and then turn on a dime. It all depends on our inner fortitude. Are you willing to put it all out there in whatever sport be it golf, bowling, etc.? How much does it really have to hurt before we decide that we are mad as hell and are not going to take it any more?
Many athletes out there are just biding their time, for what, I don’t know. The action of the game is happening right now. You decide whether or not your in the game. You don’t have to wait until someone else gives you permission. We don’t need to stand there hypnotized by the task at hand.
It’s your life…grab control…put it all out there and be victorious! You’ll find that when you let yourself go, a power which you never knew existed will rise from you. That power will change the course of your life and the others around you. When you rise to greatness it is like the tide coming in; it raises all ships. Your actions give permission for everyone around you to do the same.
So coming back to Hamlet…To Be or Not To Be. I think he’s talking about battling the dark complacent forces within ourselves and BE Magnificent or shrink and die inside everyday of your life. These are the people that “coulda been a contenda.”
I’d rather be the champ and walk past the coulda beens. Who are you now? Are you still in the state of sports hypnosis that tells you what you’ve let yourself be programmed.? Who do you choose to be after reading this? Imagine what your golf game or any game would be like. Get your blood moving, your mental game on, and ignite the passion behind it.
Until then…
